Microbiology Scientist/Senior Scientist (011MBIO)
Position Description:
We are seeking an outstanding and self-motivated individual to join our team. The successful candidate will be a skilled microbiologist and expert in genetic engineering of bacteria. This individual will have significant experience manipulating the genetics of microorganisms in a difficult genetic system. The candidate will be responsible for analyzing metabolic pathways, metabolic engineering of strains by chromosomal mutation, and creation of mutant and promoter libraries. The candidate will be self-motivated, enthusiastic, and eager to take on challenges. (S)He will work closely with the other scientists in the microbiology group along with cross-functional colleagues in bioprocessing and engineering.
Requirements and Qualifications:
- PhD in Microbiology, Biotechnology, Molecular Biology, Molecular Genetics or similar field
- 2+ years experience in industry preferred
- Expertise in a difficult bacterial genetic system
- Experience creating chromosomal mutants and gene knock out mutants
- Knowledge and experience with metabolic pathway software and flux analysis
- Experience with gram-positive, anaerobic bacteria
- Expertise in cloning strategy, conjugation, and transformation methods
- Proficient using sequence analysis software and biological databases, e.g. GENBANK, etc.
- Ability to work under time constraints and on multiple projects
- Ability to work effectively as part of a team
- Highly self-motivated and energetic
- Must have outstanding written, verbal skills, and organizational skills
- Computer literacy including Microsoft Office
Duties & Responsibilities:
- Develop, design, and execute a metabolic engineering strategy
- Genetically engineer microorganisms by creation of chromosomal mutations
- Responsible for planning, execution, and completion of projects
- Contribute opportunities for intellectual property and potential patent applications
- Provide guidance to other research staff
- Keep current on scientific literature
- Presentation of data at group scientific meetings, in the literature, and conferences
- Maintain a proper laboratory notebook
