John Chen
John C. Chen is the Carl R. Anderson Professor Emeritus of chemical engineering and former dean of the P.C. Rossin College of Engineering and Applied Science at Lehigh University. He formerly served as President of the American Institute of Chemical Engineers. A graduate of the Cooper Union, Carnegie Mellon University, and the University of Michigan, Chen joined the Lehigh faculty in 1970 after a decade in industry and national laboratories. In his research, Chen studies transport phenomena in multi-phase systems, an area affecting a wide range of industries, including biofuels, petroleum refining, power production and polymer processing.
Linda Lasure
Dr. Linda Lasure is a private consultant and has worked in the Biosciences industry for more than 35 years. During 15 years at Miles, Inc. (Miles Laboratories was acquired by Bayer in 1978) she worked as a bench scientist and progressed to Director of the Bioproducts Research Group. This experience included work on strain improvement and process development for commercial products using fungi and bacteria. During the five years at Panlabs, she continued to direct projects in strain improvement, process development and drug discovery for many of the major food and drug companies in the USA and Europe. Most recently, Dr. Lasure helped develop a new research group and a new capability at the Pacific Northwest National Laboratory directed at new technology development for the conversion of biomass to biofuels and bioproducts.
Ian Maddox
Dr. Ian Maddox is a fermentation technologist. Dr. Maddox joined Massey University after a career in the brewing and pharmaceutical industries in UK. His research activities during the last 25 years have focused on the production of butanol by fermentation using Clostridia (in excess of 50 publications), and also on some aerobic fermentations. Most of his published research has concentrated on fermentation technology, but he has also published on the physiology of some important microorganisms, including the butanol-producing Clostridia.
Del Raymond
Del Raymond has spent over 40 years working in the Forest Products Industry, most recently as a consultant specializing in “linking technology with strategy”. During his career he held many leadership positions, first with St. Regis Paper Co. and then with Weyerhaeuser. Del spent thirteen years as Director of Strategic Energy Alternatives at Weyerhauser, in which capacity he directed technology programs in environment, energy production, mill energy optimization, health and safety. He was a founding member of the American Forest & Paper Association’s Agenda 2020 where he served for ten years as Chair of the Chief Technology Officers Committee which guides the organization. In addition, he served two terms as Chair of the Forest Products Division of AIChE, a term on the TAPPI Board of Directors and a term on the Research & Development Advisory Committee to the Secretaries of the U.S. Departments of Energy and Agriculture.
